Synoptic

Synoptic is a system for online graphical representation of changing data. The project is developed and maintained by the Accelerator Controls department at Fermilab. Its main application is for the Laboratory's Data Acquisition and Control System, where Synoptic Displays are used on-line to show the live status of various technical facilities.

Roughly, the only thing that you need in order to open Synoptic Displays is a web browser capable to show SVG images. That's either a latest version of Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Internet Explorer with Adobe SVG Plugin. Please check our documentation for further instructions and system requirements.

The Display Builder is a standalone Java application for creating and editing Synoptic Displays. If Java SE 6 is installed on your computer, you can start the Builder right from the web.

What you can do on this web site:
You can open most of the listed Synoptic Displays. They show real data from the Accelerator Control System: ranging from very simple parameters, such as the ambient temperature, to very complex, such as a status of the cryogenic system. You can also test-run Display Builder, look at the existing projects and create your own. You will not be allowed, however, to commit your changes back to the central repository.

Please submit your questions and support requests to synoptic-support@fnal.gov.
